Want to get my RN!!

NEED HELP TO FINISH COLLEGE TO BE AN RN!! I am a 35 year old mother of 3, I started back to college part time almost 4 years ago- I am only working part time, and our family has made many sacrafices so I could pursue my career goals. At this time I am not eligible for any more federal loans and my credit is not good enough for private loans. I am at the point that i have all my classes but the nursing classes- I have two years left and with three kids at home i would have to quit my part time job or work just a max of 10 hours weekly, but we cant afford to do this. I feel STUCK!! I need funds to pay for classes and funds to just pay my basic bills while I attended school full time. Is anyone out there willing to be my fairy godmother/father??? Is it you who could change my life!

About bernadine

I'm a divorced/single mother of a 14 year old boy. I receive 550/mo in child support. I'm currently on unemployment because the company I worked for went out of business. I've been unable to find work and my unemployment ends on March 12th without any further extensions.  I really want to go back to school to become an RN and have been granted enough funds to pay for school, but my regular day to day bills aren't going to be covered. I'll have only the 550 per month to live on and that's only a third of my need. Is there any help I can receive here? I've tried (and am continuing to try) finding other options, but I have to give this a shot too. I figure if I can gather up enough smaller contributions/aide, then it will all add up to allow me this chance to make something of myself. I already have 23 credit hours logged... so I do have a step up from a beginning student. Please find it in your heart to help if you can.

 Thank you!

PRN Wants Nurses

We are your emergency, after hours, triage service. Our experienced staff of licensed Registered Nurses are wonderful in listening, coaching and offering education to our physician’s patients and their families. We provide guidance through urgent, emergency or crisis situations that occur when the office is closed. We also provide assistance with hospital approval and referrals.

Positive Reinforcement Nursing is not, nor do we try to be, a substitute for our physicians. We have 24 hour access to them and any scenario requiring their attention will be forwarded immediately. Patients will never be denied the chance to speak with their Doctor, or the Doctor on-call, if they feel it is necessary. However, we are highly trained and experienced and typically resolve as much as 98% of after office hour calls. We strive to maintain a very high degree of patient satisfaction. We follow very detailed and specific protocols which include addendums and orders from their health care provider covering virtually every type of call. Patients can be assured we are giving them advice that their provider has approved. A detailed report of each call is faxed to the practice the following day. We maintain strict HIPAA compliance.

We provide your patients prompt, accurate information, in a sincere and friendly manner, (Sometimes just a kind and understanding voice in the middle of the night is all that is needed.) We will return patient’s calls as soon as possible, usually between 7-10 minutes and the wait should never be more than 30 minutes.

Fonmed Hires Remote Triage Nurses

REMOTE Registered Nurses - Telephone Triage

FONEMED’s Registered Nurses provide telephone triage and health advice to callers across North America.    We use computerized Schmitt/Thompson triage guidelines to assist in assessing patients' symptoms.  In addition to triage calls, we receive questions requesting information on medical conditions, medications, diagnostic tests, etc...  All calls are documented electronically and all telephone encounters are recorded.

FONEMED’s clients are primarily physician practices.   Clients have their patients' calls transferred to FONEMED when their offices are closed. The majority of hours are evenings, nights and weekends.

FONEMED currently has opportunities for nurses to work remotely from home.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Three years recent clinical experience, pediatrics and adult.  Most triage calls are pediatric, and come from throughout North America.

  • Minimum 1 year recent experience in telephone triage using electronic triage software and computerized medical protocols/guidelines is normally required for home-based nurses.

  • Experience using the Barton Schmitt/David Thompson guidelines will be an asset.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Strong clinical assessment skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced constantly changing environment, and maintain FONEMED standards of an average of 5-6 triage calls per hour.

  • Basic computer skills within a Windows environment and keyboarding ability.

  • Active RN licensure in state of residence. Must be willing to apply for additional licensure at employer’s request (reimbursement provided).

  • Bilingual English/Spanish or another language will be considered an asset.

EXPECTATIONS OF NURSE

  • Flexibility with hours, including being able to work 2-3 weekends a month.

  • Separate room with door to keep out regular family noise (also consider dog barking, etc.)

  • High speed internet access (no dial-up).

  • One uncompensated 4-hour on-call block per week (weekday nights).  If called in to work, normal pay will apply.

  • Participation (via telephone) in staff meetings.

  • Full compliance with FONEMED policies and procedures, including HIPAA privacy requirements.

Compensation and Hours

handicapped and out of work

I am 27 years and live in Port Clinton, OH.  I spent 7 years of my life working as a dedicated nursing assistant taking care of Alzheimer's and stroke patients.  Gradually my back started to become worse and worse until now I can hardly walk at all.  I cannot get worker's comp because I cannot prove exactly when and where the injury occured.  I am applying for SSI disability, but even with using a wheelchair most of the time now, the probability doesn't look good.  The injury I have is most likely a pinched nerve, which does not show up on the X-rays they do to determine your disability.  Even if I do end up being approved, it is a process that can take years.  I am always trying, but unable to find a job around here where I would not constantly have to stand or walk.  I even took a job where I had to do that anyway, took a lot of Aleeve, and put over the counter pain patches on my back.  I was still only able to last a few hours before I had to go home crying.  I am also bipolar and this whole situation is bad for my mental health, along with having trouble affording my meds and psychiatrict care.  I have no income right now.  I have almost been homeless and had utilities shut off more than once already.  I am in need of money to help with bills, a job where I can sit down, medical help, anything really.  My back is treatable, but not without medical care or medical insurance.  I have helped many people in my life.  Even some financially when I couldn't really afford it.  I like to think that God/karma or whatever you believe in will take that into consideration now that I, myself, am in need.

a nurse on disability?

My name is Leigha.  I am a 24 year old single woman from Lexington, Kentucky.  I am hopefully coming to the end of one of the worst years of my life.  I had been very responsible about paying my bills, paying them on time.....that was, up until about a year ago.  The air conditioner in my car broke.  And as a profession I am a home health nurse, so at the end of the summer I am facing driving around the city in 90 + degree weather.  So I decided to max out my last two credit cards and fix my air conditioner in my car.  That seems to be where it all began.  I have been trying to play catch up ever since.

I am less than a year away from completing my program. I have come so far....Then a few months ago everything fell apart..My car started having problems, my hours at work got cut, the bills started adding up...If I cannot pay my tuition and bills I will have to drop out of school. I want to become  a nurse to help people..and eventually go on medical missions. If anyone finds it in their heart to help me...Thank you and God Bless!!!

I am a 49 year old who is in need of money. My Husband is in prison and am the only paycheck in the home. I have a 21 year old daughter who is Bi-polar/learning disabled and is unable to hold a job do to her mental illness and disabilty. She is presently trying to obtain work through an agency that helps people with mental illness/physical disabilities, but they have so many cases it may take months for her to actually make money.

With out my husbands income I am $2,000. a month short for my bills. My house is being threatened with forclosure and I am behind on all my bills and cannot afford my daughters medication since most providers at the public clinic are no longer able to provide her medications, she becomes very suicidal and out of control without it . My car payment is two months behind and I am afraid to go to sleep at night because I am afraid they will try to take my car.

We are in desparate need of help any donation will do.  Now it is trying to decide pay bills, get gas to go to work or eat.
We have tapped out all of our retirement for legal bills. Please help!

Nurse in Need

Can You Please Help a Nurse in Need?

This is the first time I’ve every done something like this and it is difficult so please bear with me. I am Kelly and I am a Registered Nurse. I've spent many years having the opportunity to do what I love, helping others in need. I have been the caregiver and advocate for others who are suffering from illness or injury and also a liaison for family members who are caught in the painful, sometime powerless feeling of watching their loved ones go through illness or injury.

Now I find myself in the position of needing help. I was injured at work, but I am told it will be months until I receive any help financially. I have lost just about everything, except my home. And I am terrified I will loose that too. As a nurse I have faced emergencies with skill and professionalism, but I’m afraid I’ve hit a problem I am not able to fix. As difficult as it is for me to ask for help, I would imagine it is also difficult for someone to offer help to a virtual stranger, so let me give you a bit of insight into who I am.

I accepted the position as Director of Nursing at my current job. This facility's pay is very low with no health insurance or other health benefits, no sick time, vacation or holiday pay. This facility also had a reputation of doing very badly during state visits and has an administrator who is known for treating her staff poorly and letting the people in her care do without even some of the most basic of needs.

I had my work cut out for me. But I did not take the job because it would be easy. I took the job because I saw a need for my skills and expertise and I knew I could make a difference in the lives of the patients and the staff. I firmly believe that everyone, regardless of their financial or social status, deserve the best care available. And with the help of other dedicated staff members, I was able to create an environment that was focused on the well-being of those under my care. The patients and staff now had someone who was not afraid to speak up for them. Someone who put the patient's needs above all else and set the standard for other health care professionals in the facility. Having State Survey cite no deficiencies (the first time in over 10 years) was an added bonus. But the best indicator that I was doing my job was on the faces of those in my care. It wasn't uncommon for me to clock out at three but not leave until four. As I would make my way toward the door, patients would stop me and want to talk to me, share stories with me or just want to exchange pleasantries as I left and make sure I was coming back 'tomorrow'.

In my private life, I purchased a major fixer-upper. But it was love at first sight! By doing the renovations ourselves, we have saved thousands I’m sure and it also helps that we have been lucky enough to find things others don’t want and use it for this task. Even though this project has had to come to a halt since I’ve been injured, I know that the rest of the ceilings will be put up, we’ll be able to paint the drywall and have a tub to use down the road.

But in the meanwhile, I am in what seems to be a hurt at work nightmare as my boss and the insurance company refuse to get me the medical treatment I so desperately need and agree to give me temporary total disability. I am so lost, scarred and in so much pain. My hope is that there are people out there who would be willing to help me financially or by any other means available. My mortgage is $296 per month (one advantage of getting such a fixer-upper). And since we have been cutting back on bills, my bills are about $150 per month. Any help at all would be so appreciated. I could even make arrangements to pay back a loan if someone is willing to help in that way.

I have heard that adversity can bring out the best in people. I believe that with my whole heart. I’ve been privileged enough to see it during my career. Finding this website has really opened some doors for me and it is my deepest desire that once I am back on my feet again, that I return the favor by helping others in need.

Thank you so much for reading my story.
Kelly

Now I find myself in the position of needing help. I was injured at work and my employer is denying the validity of the claim. While this has to be worked out in court, which could take months, I have lost the only source of income for my family...me. I have no income and bills that will not wait. My biggest fear is that I will loose my home since I am unable to pay my mortgage of $296 per month and it is already overdue. It is so difficult to ask for help, but I would imagine it is just as difficult to offer help to someone you do not know so if I may, I will give you insight into who I am.

I accepted the position as Director of Nursing at my current job. This facility's pay is very low with no health insurance or other health benefits, no sick time, vacation or holiday pay. In my private life, I had my work cut out for me too. We had bought an extreme fixer-upper, but I fell in love with the house at first sight and knew, once the work was finished, it would be a wonderful home to grow old in. We have been doing all the work ourselves, but the work on our home has come to a stand still since there is not money to complete the projects still needing to be done.

Don't get me wrong. I do not mind living in our home that still needs so much work. I figured we may even be able to do without electricity if it comes to that, but I am terrified to loose our home. We would then be put out in the streets.

If anyone is able to help, I would be so greatful. And please, any help would be appreciated, no matter what it is.

Thank you for taking the time to ready my story.

Bless you all!

Nurse in Need

Hi, I'm Kelly and I am a Nurse in Need of Your Help

I am a woman who has dedicated my life to helping others but sadly, I was injured at work and was told by the doctor to stop working. The doctors think that the damage to my knees are extensive but my employer says the injuries are unverified and has convinced the insurance company to hold off treatment. Even though I have been treated terribly by my employer and the insurance company, I still have faith in the caring and compassion of others. It is with this belief that I humbly ask for help. Although financial help is what I need so desparately, even a kind word or some advise will be greatly appreciated.

If you would like more information about me and the help I need, please click on my AidPage 'Can you please help a nurse in need?'

School Loans, depressing

I am so depressed.  I just finished nursing school and passed my boards.  I should be happy right?  I also have a new husband and step daughter... should be happy right?  And my step daughter has no real mom...her mom signed her rights away and went away to drink alcohol when she was 2.  I have been in their lives and helping with her since she was 4.  We are now married, she is 10.  Anyway, I would happy with my life if I did not have an $80,000 school loan hanging over my head.  The school loan is for another school... Court Reporting.  I went to Court Reporting (stenography) school for about 7 years... which added up to about $45,000.  Now with interest and time it's up to $80, and over the 30 year plan they put me on, it will be $200,000.  And now I have to tell my husband.  He was so excited about my new wages, and now I have to throw a wrench in it.  I only have the loan because I am not a quitter, and I was trying to go through the school and work at the same time, which is impossible with that line of work.  They finally told me I was out of loans and that I could not finish the school.  I made A's in all the academics, but the last 4 years was just trying to get to 225 words a miniute on that steno machine.. Ug!.  Anyway, I am very depressed and totally screwed and would love any help that anyone could offer.  With my husband I was able to not work and go to nursing school, which I am now done with... but now all the money will go to those damn loans.  Does anyone know what I can do to find a 'past-school-loan grant'?

ErinMP

ErinMP

My name is Erin and I am in a difficult place right now.  I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia five years ago, and I slowly let my life be destroyed by it. I was twenty five when the struggle in my head finally became too much to bear.  I was suicidal and scared, so I did what I thought best and checked myself into Riverside ETS (a mental hospital).

A coworker I thought I could trust knew of my struggle and visited me in the hospital (I was there three days).  All three days I called in sick to work, for fear of losing my job (I was an outside sales rep).  The day I returned to work, my boss pulled me aside and fired me for supposedly not returning a clients page (I had received a raise not a month prior, as part of my annual review).  I was so ashamed and humiliated because we both knew I was being fired because of my new "illness".

With no health insurance I had to rely on the county for mental health care.  I can't tell you the indignities and humiliations I experienced (I was released from the hospital with a prescription, only to be denied the medication from another county doctor who didn't "believe" in that particular medication; a nurse in ETS sent me to the violent ward because she feared that the woman in my room was a sexual threat to me!!??).

My parents were appalled at the care at the county so they were kind enough to pay for a private psychiatrist. (The county was requiring me to attend therapy every friday from 8-11am and only then could I receive my medication for the week; a five hour process.  I had a job, or at least was trying to keep my new job, and couldn't really explain away the five hours every week!)  I found a doctor in the yellow pages, and he ended up prescribing me 1200mg of Seroquel (an antipsychotic).  The doctor was sympathetic to the fact that I was low on money, so he gave me sample packs.

That evening I took the dose at about 6pm, and the next thing I knew it was morning and I was late for work.  I jumped in the shower, and dressed quickly.  I felt very strange, but I didn't realize how much trouble I was already in.  I got in my truck and didn't make it a mile from my house before rear ending a car at a stop light.  I had noticed that it was still dark outside, but somehow I explained that away to myself.  I was arrested for a DUI at 8pm.

I lost my new job (although my boss did represent me in court), and was sentenced to 15 days in jail.  No one was hurt, and for that I am grateful.  I later found out that I had been ODing on Seroquel (the max dose is 800mg, and that is for people with a tolerance to it, or obesity).  My lawyer wanted to sue the doctor, but I was so overwhelmed with everything happening that I didn't want to pursue that particular avenue.

That pretty much was the grease that allowed the wheels of insanity to start spinning in my life.  I would like to tell you that things have changed for the better, however my illness has progressed to the point that I can no longer leave my home.  I am now on disability which both upsets and shames me.  I just recently had the courage to initiate getting my drivers license back.  I also know that I am now at a point to get a job again.  I have been slowly making myself reenter society.  Scary, but fun.  I want to live again, and be as close to normal as I was before!  The reason I am writing this page is not so that I can hear a small violin play in my ear, but because I want to rebuild my life.  I have never been good at asking for help, but if there's one thing I want to do it is to become a nurse.  I want to finish school and work at the Riverside ETS, because people with mental illnesses deserve respect too.  I am smart, I am dedicated, and I will do it.  If you have faith in me, that is all I need!
